New England 5

Regarding the story about the Canadian geese on Lake of the Ozarks, six goslings were hatched 😊

April 20, 2024 - Saturday
Went to RJ’s for Italian food with the Phat Five (Class of ’65 lifelong friends) plus Terry’s sister, Kim, from Florida.

April 21, 2024 - Sunday
My daughter, Shannon, and the boys arrived from vacation in Florida mid-day, so we had a spaghetti dinner here for the whole gang of 11. After dinner, there was an impromptu lesson in disc golf in the backyard. So happy to get hugs from the grands. I measure them each year and Jake is the winner this year at 6’1” - his parents are tall, but have to look up at him!

Zach’s purple hair was lost to the chlorine pool in Florida.

April 23, 2024 - Tuesday
Spent the day in New York registering Shadow and trying to get an inspection sticker. We did not know that tinted windows are illegal in NY (and MA),  so failed the inspection and now we have to have the tinting removed on all 4 windows at $40/window + tax. The highlight of the day was seeing Rich’s son, Perry, and kiddos PJ and Ellie briefly.

April 24, 2024 - Wednesday
Rich’s daughter, Nora, and granddaughter, Kieran, surprised us by coming to Lee this evening. What a pleasant surprise!

April 25, 2024 - Thursday
We made reservations at the Locker Room Sports Pub for their prime rib special. Sister, Cindy, and hubby, Jimmy, came over from Westfield and our Mom joined us, as well as Nora and Kieran, for good food and conversation.

April 29, 2024 - Monday
Treated ourselves to an ice cream cone at Highlawn Dairy Farm.

April 30, 2024 - Tuesday
Had a terrific meal at the Burmese Bowl with 3 of my Big Y friends. We all worked together in a past life. Can’t believe I didn’t take one picture of food or people 😩

May 1, 2024 - Wednesday
On the road again to Maine to meet up with my two East coast sisters, Cindy and Leslie, and their husbands to open the camp.

The traffic was the worst we’ve seen driving across the whole country! It was a LOT of construction on Interstate 90 - can’t wait to see the finished product!

Stopped at Bob’s Seafood for a crock of clam chowder and split an order of scallops and fries. Yum! Lobster is $17.99/lb so we won’t be indulging this year!

Our server Billy Jo mentioned that she has had a food truck for 10 years, “Shut Up n Eat,” where she serves homemade: chili, Mac n cheese, corn dogs, etc.

Time to open the camp and do some serious replacing of mattresses. We decided to upgrade the kitchen stove as well.

After doing most of the opening chores, we always had bountiful meals. Today Jimmy carved a pork roast and Cindy prepared all of the fixings.

And we had time & energy to sit in the “room of chairs” to chat, watch for loons, and indulge in dessert. Rich and I played a few songs as well.

Leslie and Johan’s young crew came in to do the heavy lifting - Sparks, Sarah, and JohannesπŸ’•

This is my great-grandfather, Arthur, who built the camps in 1901. A true legacy!

Miracle in Maine - We stayed in the motorhome and Rich decided to plug in the “broken” microwave for ha-ha’s. Lo and behold, it beeped and the clock came on!! What a relief. We had begrudgingly prepared to remove/replace it with $omething new. No need now. Phew!

May 4, 2024 - Saturday
We got on the road at 7am and took the scenic route home - takes a little longer, but no traffic stress.

May 6, 2024 - Monday
Drove to Whitehall today through NY. Hit a traffic jam along the way…a gaggle of geese!

Looks like they were having a discussion about disciplining the youngins. They had literally sat down in the middle of the road. Their owner came out and harkened them back, which they all did in lockstep.

Visited with Nora for a while, then drove home via Vermont. Amish country…

May 7, 2024 - Tuesday
A beautiful day today - sunshine and 70’s. We got into the camper for a deep clean - getting rid of desert dust and polishing all surfaces until they sparkle.

May 8, 2024 - Wednesday
So four of the Phat Five got away for a three day getaway at Cape Cod. Another classmate, Susie, lives there and was kind enough to take us on a guided tour. We learned about the Wampanoag tribe of Hyannis - Old Indian nation - who taught the first settlers from Europe how to survive with farming and hunting. In return, European traders introduced yellow fever which killed off 1/3 of the tribe.

We stopped to eat a lot at Captain Parker’s in Yarmouth.

I did not realize that Christmas Tree Shops closed all 82 stores nationwide until she told us. Looks like the timing was appropriate for the “Disney” of Cape Cod, Cuffy’s to open:

Genius merchandising…

Sand sculptures…

Colors galore…

Overwhelming…

Boston whaler…

Friends forever…❤️

Tata for now πŸ’•
