Apricity West 3

October 1, 2022, Saturday
Had a supersized breakfast at Cactus Cafe this morning with North Ranch friends, Lu and Roger. It was fun to catch up with them and all of the trips they made from Missouri to Colorado!

Had a surprise visit from Fran and Rich this afternoon. Here is the latest piece that Fran did and is showing at the Art Center here.

October 2, 2022, Sunday
Drove over to LOW-HI RV Park to take a walk with Lu and her new friend, Karel Zide of Fall River, MA.

LOW (Loners on Wheels) - HI is a park for singles so they don’t pay as much for their stay. They have gone to great lengths to improve the park by adding a walking trail in the desert.

It is a lovely walk - we did a lot of walking and talking for one hour. Of course, we were thirsty and the choices were coffee or Tequila Mary’s on a Sunday morning. She ended up making a pitcher and before you knew it, I KNEW I couldn’t drive home! Soooo, Roger drove over to Dream Catcher to pick up Rich and bring him over to Uber me home. HA!

After a rest period and doing some jigsaw puzzling at the clubhouse, we were invited to dinner at the Adobe Deli by the Escapee managers from here and North Ranch. We ordered margaritas and split a rack of ribs, baked potato, baked onion soup - delicious! The building used to be a school house - quite the transformation…

October 3, 2022, Monday
Woke up to a beautiful rainbow that spanned from one end of the park to the other.

Had the rig and car washed and waxed today by Royal Detailing from Las Cruces ($100 + tip). Came out very nice. These young men do a great job - had them last year too.

Ladies in purple (Pat, park manager and Kay, neighbor) paid us a visit under the shade tree.

October 4, 2022, Tuesday
Did my first session of Tai Chi which I found very relaxing. Then worked on a 500-piece puzzle which is tiny pieces compared to the 300 pieces we have been working on… I need a challenge!

Drove over to Keith and Zilla’s to visit after lunch and she never disappoints - she had homemade apple turnovers to share! Keith built this screened sun and wind shelter, furnished with table, chairs and fridge, to enjoy the outdoor air. Very talented couple!

Later that day, cocktails with Dennis and he presented me with a handmade set of chimes which sound and look just great - will unpack and hang when settled in North Ranch. More talent in Deming…

October 5, 2022, Wednesday
Went to the  Deming Arts Center - a small space but filled with various types of art. We saw Fran’s exhibit which was Sugar Bunny with 17 pieces of clothing and accessories including a Moses basket, and Mr. Bear..

We continued on to look at other pieces. When we passed by Fran’s display again, a couple from Tucson was packing it up to buy! We were bragging that we know her and they asked us questions about her. I told them that she did this work diligently (before she had her hip replaced) to have it ready to display at the October show. They told us they have 9 grandchildren (several are girls) and this seemed like a perfect gift for them, even if they bought a small doll to wear some of the attire when Sugar Bunny wasn’t. The woman said she had just joined a Refugee Children Support Group and this type of craft would be great to have. They have Fran’s card which was neatly tucked into Mr. Bear’s pocket - I hope they call upon her for this project.

This art space has been a bank and a supermarket…

Rich bought two prints by John Glass, the artist we met in an art co-op in old town Mesilla two years ago.

Worked on the tiny pieced puzzle today with neighbor Kay and discovered that she and her husband raise and transport horses for training for the roping contests that we love in Wickenberg.

They are actually leaving here the same day as we are heading for Wickenberg where they just bought a new mobile home to settle in. She is an Elk and plays cards (Hand and Foot - Canasta) on Thursdays so I am sure we will cross paths again - small world. By the way, we pushed ourselves to finish the tiny pieced puzzle - thought a piece was missing but found it on the floor!

October 6, 2022, Thursday
I spent several hours at the clubhouse doing laundry, exercising, and puzzling. Rich got Gracie hooked up and ready to take off in the morning. We walked over to Dennis’s for a very tasty spaghetti dinner and salad. It was hard saying goodbye until next year, but our door is always open back home.

  1. Had to laugh at the name of the horse...if his first name was Smokin...his last name should have been Loco! Then he would have been called Crazy Horse! Ha ha.Kibbie
